Exoborne, developed by Swedish studio Sharkmob, is set to revolutionize the extraction shooter genre with its unique blend of high-tech action and environmental challenges.

The high-octane shooter revolves around players and their “exo-rigs.” These amplified exoskeletons empower players to dive headlong into the heart of the action. They’ll face off against formidable enemies and execute daring escapes.

Meanwhile, tornadoes swirl in the sky as climate disaster turns an open world battlezone into a deathtrap.

A world in chaos

Exoborne takes the familiar extraction shooter formula and injects it with a dose of sci-fi. Set in a near-future Earth ravaged by climate disasters, players become the Reborn—survivors who venture into dangerous territories to scavenge resources and relics.

What sets Exoborne apart is its focus on “suspenseful action.” Players don exo-rigs, advanced exoskeletons that grant superhuman abilities, allowing them to face off against both human and robotic foes while battling the elements themselves.

The game’s setting is a character in itself.

The game’s setting is a character in itself. As players explore sprawling maps dotted with small towns and futuristic facilities, they’ll contend with: hostile machines that attack on sight; rival human scavengers competing for resources; unpredictable weather patterns that can turn deadly in an instant.

As matches progress, the environment becomes increasingly hazardous. Thunderstorms disrupt communication, lightning strikes pose a constant threat, and massive tornadoes can reshape the battlefield in seconds.

At the heart of Exoborne‘s gameplay are the exo-rigs. These high-tech suits provide players with enhanced strength and mobility, and offer specialized gadgets like portable force shields and grappling hooks, and even a paraglider to sail through the air.

Each game begins with your squad of exo-suit-powered scavengers diving out of a dropship to a landing point. From here, players can explore an open-world map to scavenge tools and new weapons from loot caches or from the enemies they’ll face in the field. Along with hostile machines that attack anything in sight, groups of marauders also want what you have.

The developers’ philosophy of “you are what you carry” shines through in the importance of loadout choices and resource management. Players must strategically use their tools and upgrades to survive and thrive in this hostile world.

To add a further twist on traditional shooters, Exoborne also emphasizes vertical gameplay. With the exo-rigs, players can scale buildings to reach vantage points for scouting and combat.

This extra-human agility will let players move through the map in ways that other shooters normally don’t.

While defeat can result in the loss of valuable loot, Sharkmob aims to make Exoborne accessible to players of all skill levels. With the focus on action and team-based gameplay, the developers want newcomers and shooter veterans alike to be able to jump in and learn the ins and outs of the game together.

As players strap on their exo-rigs and dive into this chaotic world, they’ll find a fresh take on the extraction shooter game that challenges them to adapt, survive, and thrive in the face of both human and natural adversities.

Exoborne is currently in development and is slated to release on PC and console.
