Following the substantial Rejects Unite content drop, Fatshark is back with more for Warhammer 40,000: Darktide, with not just the game’s release on Xbox Series X|S, but also the significant class overhaul for all of its characters with patch 13.
The first-person action shooter has enjoyed a solid start, delivering enjoyable action in the Hive City of Tertium for players entering the danger zone as Psykers, Veterans, Zealots, and Ogryns. Now, the new class overhaul sees increased customization options with class-specific talent trees, helping players to tailor their characters to their preferred playstyle.
Each class in Warhammer 40,000: Darktide now has an expanded talent tree to draw from, with multiple paths and unique upgrades that will ensure that even if there are two of the same classes on a team, they can play drastically differently. As players accrue Talent Points, these can be put into the three varying paths of upgrades, with each activated node contributing to making a better killing machine.
With Patch 13, the game introduces a total of 24 abilities and 12 passive talents, with six and three per class respectively. As players hit the level cap, they will have 30 Talent Points to use as they deem fit, which opens up a well of possibilities both for the class and team meta. In essence, each class can benefit from the following enhancements:
- Blitz ability – Grenade-related abilities that can change how explosives are used.
- Combat ability – An ultimate ability that can deliver high impact or utility that has a cooldown.
- Keystone – More iconic talents vary between the trees but drive playstyle.
- Talent – Interactive buffs that tie into core gameplay loops.
- Aura – Various team buffs spread as Coherency bonus.
- Stat – Flat bonus to a core stat (toughness/crit chance/health).
“Two of the things our community has been asking for the most since our initial launch has been an update regarding our one class/quarter intent and the timing for our launch on Xbox,” said Juan Martinez, Executive Producer on Darktide. “We appreciate their patience and are excited to get this into their hands, to hear their feedback and to continue to grow the Darktide community.”
Adding a new platform with the Xbox Series X|S (and Xbox Game Pass) will also see the implementation of full crossplay and content consistency, with dedicated graphical modes to suit players of all kinds. On the Series S, the game will run at 30FPS in 1080p, while on the Series X, Graphics Mode brings 30FPS in 4K while Performance Mode delivers 60FPS in 1440p.
Having taken the time to reflect on the community’s feedback and work on the things that needed improvement, Patch 13 represents Fatshark’s continued commitment to serving its players and supporting their product. The fresh coat of paint has made Darktide a more in-depth experience that should delight from start to finish.
Warhammer 40,000: Darktide is available on Steam, Windows Store, and Xbox platforms.
