With Goddess of Victory: NIKKE turning two in November, its creators say the sci-fi RPG shooter’s success comes down to several core gameplay elements.

Speaking on the Tokyo Game Show 2024 stage, Shift Up CEO Kim Hyung Tae and NIKKE game director Yoo Hyun Suk said that the devs have focused on aspects such as character design, establishing an emotional connection with the player, as well as the game’s high-quality graphics and shooting gameplay.

Yoo also said the studio has focused on providing robust content updates on the live service game. He added that the devs have aimed the content and storylines at a global audience.

Kim said the game’s storylines and character development have focused on creating more complex emotional connections with players, which they feel resonate more deeply in the end, as quoted by Gametoc.

He also hinted that players should look forward to the game’s upcoming second anniversary milestone for its next batch of content, which includes a new mini-game.

NIKKE celebrated its first anniversary with the Red Ash story event and login bonuses to claim in-game gems, and draw new characters and costumes from the game’s gacha system.

And on its 1.5-year anniversary, it surprised fans with more characters, the Last Kingdom story event, and even a new tower defense mini-game.

Yoo said that Shift Up has already developed two years of content as part of its long-term strategy for the game’s ongoing development.

NIKKE publisher Level Infinite put the game front-and-center at its recent Tokyo Game Show booth, with a life-size 10-round gacha with cosplayers dressed up as in-game characters. The booth welcomed nearly 20,000 fans over the convention days, as they came and interacted with the different titles on display.

NIKKE voice actors Yoko Hikasa, M・A・O, and Satomi Arai (who voice Red Hood, Snow White, and Syuen, respectively) were also at the booth for meet-and-greets with fans.

As the game approaches its second anniversary, it’s clear that Shift Up’s strategy of continuous content updates puts NIKKE on track for sustained momentum. Look out for the second anniversary update!
