Turn back the tide and save the city of Tertium, Warhammer 40,000: Darktide is now live. From the creators of the Vermintide series comes a ferocious first-person shooter built for exhilarating cooperative play. Stand shoulder to shoulder with up to three friends online and dare to survive the hordes of Chaos. If you fall, so will Tertium.
We’re Going to Need Guns…
With the Darktide pre-order beta wrapped, Fatshark has analysed player data and fine-tuned game balance, as well as introduced the all-new crafting system. The biggest change from Vermintide to Darktide is the addition of ranged weapons alongside the already best-in-class melee combat.
At launch, Warhammer 40,000: Darktide will boast over 70 different weapons, which can be customized to modify their performance and capacity, letting players tweak their loadout to suit their preferred playing style. Progression is paramount: every successful mission is another step closer to unlocking a weapon’s full potential.
Class Action
Each of the four starting classes carries a unique two-weapon loadout for slaughtering enemies at range or up close. The Zealots relish being at the centre of the action with the autopistol and swinging their axe with abandon. The Psykers pick their moment with precise shots from their revolver while the Veteran is deadly from distance with their long-range lasgun. And the carnage left in the wake of the Ogryns’ shotgun and club combo speaks for itself.
Picking a class also means choosing the background and the key moments that shaped the character’s life. It’s important players know who they are and how they got there when they’re mowing down a wave of plague-riddled bad guys in Warhammer 40,000: Darktide.
Talent Pool
Warhammer 40,000: Darktide classes are further distinguished through their talents, special abilities that offer substantial buffs or highly destructive powers. The Zealot draws upon their faith to enhance their toughness while the Psyker taps into the power of their mind to warp reality to their will. The Ogryn and Veteran work well in tandem, the latter’s sharpshooter ability enabling greater accuracy and weak spot damage while the former charges into the fray like a bull, staggering enemies through sheer brute strength.
Drop, Shop and Roll
While the bulk of Warhammer 40,000: Darktide‘s missions offers a bloody tour of the grimy industrial warrens of the many-layered hive city of Tertium, the beating heart is the hub area. On the Mourningstar, stationed in low orbit above Tertium, players return between missions to carry out upgrades to their character, do a spot of shopping, and talk to a variety of NPCs. Compared to the hub in Vermintidem it’s simply a much bigger place that feels alive. The interactions, whether with important leaders or mere shopkeepers, lend credence to the idea that Tertium is a place worth fighting for.
